In 2020, a novel coronavirus epidemic has brought people’s demand for health products to an unprecedented height. The product quality of Ganoderma lucidum spore powder with “enhancing immunity” as its core selling point has also become the focus of public attention. With the continuous upgrading of spore powder collection and deep processing technology, and people’s higher and higher requirements for the quality of spore powder, the first national standard for spore powder that has been implemented for 7 years will usher in a new round of revision and improvement on September 4.
According to industry insiders, the current national standard named “Standards on harvesting and processing techniques of ganoderma lucidum spore powder” (GB/T 29344-2012) executed by the spore powder industry was mainly developed by GANOHERB, released on 31 December 2012 and implemented since 1 August 2013, clearly stipulating the terms, definitions, harvesting requirements, harvesting conditions, harvesting methods, hygiene requirements, processing requirements, packaging and storage of spore powder. For 7 years, it has been the authoritative reference for the production process of Ganoderma lucidum and Ganoderma lucidum spore powder products. And it has played a positive role in regulating the quality of Ganoderma lucidum spore powder products.
However, in the past 7 years, thanks to the rapid development of the global Ganoderma lucidum industry, China’s Reishi mushroom industry has greatly improved in terms of harvesting technology, processing technology and product category. Considering that the original national standard has a certain lag, the industry call for revising the “national standard for spore powder” is getting more urgent. On March 6, 2020, after the review and approval of the experts of the National Food Industry Standardization Technical Committee, the National Standardization Management Committee issued a standard revision plan and designated GANOHERB to once again lead the revision of the national standard. The seminar for revision of the national standard on Ganoderma lucidum spore powder will be officially launched in Fuzhou on September 4, 2020.
According to reports, in order to better adapt to the new trends and new needs of the development of the Ganoderma lucidum industry in China, this seminar will revise the technical standards and quality standards for the collection of spore powder including the bagging powder collection methods, mulching powder collection methods and bagging-materials-cultivated Ganoderma lucidum fungi wall spore powder collection methods to make the standards more in line with the market demand for the development of the global Lingzhi industry.
According to incomplete statistics, only 10 companies produced Ganoderma lucidum health products in the early 1990s. At present, there are 99 varieties of medicines with Ganoderma lucidum as the main ingredient and 430 drug approval numbers, while there are more than 1,200 health foods with Ganoderma lucidum/Ganoderma lucidum spores powder as the main raw material. This also means that the revised national standard for spore powder will have an impact on more than 1,000 domestic Ganoderma lucidum or Ganoderma lucidum spore powder manufacturers, encourage enterprises to ensure quality control from the source, better protect consumers’ rights and interests and promote standardized development of the entire Ganoderma lucidum standardization industry.
It is reported that the 2020 Annual Meeting of Medicinal Fungi Committee of China Edible Fungi Association and Seminar for Revision of the National Standard on Ganoderma Lucidum Spore Powder will attract more than 100 industry experts, scholars, entrepreneur representatives and other edible mushroom practitioners to participate in. With new thinking and new perspectives, they will jointly discuss and analyze how to develop the edible-medicinal fungi industry with high quality under the condition of normalization of epidemic prevention and how to make Chinese standards better spread to the world.
