According to the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer, the number of new cancer cases and deaths worldwide in 2020 was 19.29 million and 9.96 million, respectively. Among them, the number of new cancer cases and deaths in China was 4.57 million and 3 million, ranking first in the world. Cancer has become a serious public enemy to the health of the Chinese people, and cancer treatment has also brought a heavy burden to society and families.

In order to help prevent and fight cancer scientifically, on April 8, the launching ceremony of the 4th “Co-construction and Sharing for the Health of All” public welfare action in 2023 with the theme of “Comprehensive Action for Cancer Prevention and Treatment” was held in Fuzhou. The event was sponsored by Fujian Provincial Association for the Promotion of Traditional Chinese Medicine Research and Fuzhou Science and Technology Association, undertaken by Fujian News Broadcasting of Convergence Media Information Center of Fujian Media Group and Fujian Xianzhilou Biological Science and Technology Group, and co-organized by Fujian Medicine and Health Work Committee of the Chinese Peasants’ and Workers’ Democratic Party, the Women and Children’s Committee of Fujian Provincial Party Committee under China Association for Promoting Democracy, and the Ganoderma Knowledge Branch of Fuzhou Science and Technology Museum. The National Brand Engineering Office of Xinhua News Agency and Fujian Science and Technology Association also gave guidance and support to this event.

“The key to cancer prevention and treatment is prevention.” Lin Yang, full-time vice chairman of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Chinese Peasants’ and Workers’ Democratic Party and executive vice president of Fujian Provincial Association for the Promotion of Traditional Chinese Medicine Research, said in his speech that traditional Chinese medicine represented by Ganoderma is an important magic weapon for “preventive treatment of diseases”, and it has its unique advantages in cancer prevention and epidemic prevention and control. Integrating resources and emphasizing both traditional Chinese and Western medicine will be the development direction of scientific anti-cancer.

At the kick-off meeting, Professor Jian Du, a nationally famous traditional Chinese medicine doctor and chief physician of the Second People’s Hospital Affiliated to Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, shared how to identify physique and use diet therapy to prevent cancer, comprehensively analyze the external manifestations of different physiques and give specific dietary advice while emphasizing dietary intervention by traditional Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation for patients suffering from deficiency of healthy qi and injury of both qi and yin after undergoing cancer radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
